# Critter > Critter is a local visual history tool for designers and developers working with coding agents. Browse and compare interactive UI versions from Git commits. Package: @idamadam/critter on npm. Use the installed CLI’s version-matched bundled skill for commands. Requires Node.js 18+ and Git. Supports Vite, statically exportable Next.js, and plain HTML projects. Historical previews are static builds; backend services and external state are not versioned. Critter guides the workflow; it does not generate designs or orchestrate agents. ## Documentation - [Set up Critter in your project](https://critter.sh/docs/getting-started.md): Install Critter to browse HTML prototypes, Vite apps, and static Next.js pages across Git commits, then compare UI versions in your browser. - [Supported projects and limitations](https://critter.sh/docs/supported-projects.md): Check Critter compatibility with HTML prototypes, Vite, static Next.js exports, multiple projects, environment variables, and historical UI snapshots. - [Design iteration with a coding agent](https://critter.sh/docs/agent-workflow.md): Use Critter with your existing coding agent to review Git commits, bookmark the versions worth keeping, and compare grouped UI alternatives. - [Troubleshoot Critter setup and previews](https://critter.sh/docs/troubleshooting.md): Diagnose HTML paths and assets, dev server and framework build failures, environment variables, highlights, viewer reuse, and applying design alternatives in Critter. ## Workflow guides - [Compare UI versions from Git commits](https://critter.sh/guides/compare-ui-commits.md): Use Critter to open earlier versions of your interface, compare two Git commits side by side, and inspect changes in the browser. - [Explore design alternatives with coding agents](https://critter.sh/guides/explore-design-variations.md): Keep different UI directions available with Git branches and worktrees, Critter's included agent skill, and grouped browser comparisons. - [Get back a feature your agent dropped](https://critter.sh/guides/recover-a-dropped-feature.md): A Solar Commons walkthrough showing how Critter finds the version where a feature still worked, shows exactly what changed, and keeps alternative UI directions side by side. ## Reference - [npm package](https://www.npmjs.com/package/@idamadam/critter): Published package, version, and README. - [Interactive demonstration](https://critter.sh/): Prepared Field Notes design examples; these are demonstration fixtures, not a reproducible repository history.
